Bickram Ghosh: The best thing about the pandemic was that one got to introspect

Music Articles - 25 Feb 2021

Many musicians tried to create more and work more despite the pandemic last year. And tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh is no exception. The senior musician, who known for his ability to dabble in a vast repertoire of musical genres, and for scoring over 36 feature films, did not let the pandemic put a stop to his creativity. And during the lockdown he continued to single-mindedly focus on his music.
In an interview with Bombay Times he said, “The best thing about the pandemic was that one got to introspect. I worked through the year. My studio being very close to my home in Kolkata, I was able to work non-stop. Since there was no travel and no physical concerts, I was able to give my full attention to my work. I also did three more Bengali films and enjoyed my time at home with my wife Jaya and my two sons Aadit and Arav. I read a lot of books too!”

With all protocols and restrictions in place, there were no live concerts but online concerts became a rage and Bickram Ghosh too indulged in it.

“I did 15 online performances, and most of them were shot in empty theatres. They were shot on chroma and they looked very lavish through post production. However I missed the live audience!

However, the tabla maestro did have a few things to complain about 2020. “The worst thing about last year was that the world lived in fear. We lost many people to COVID and many were hospitalised.”
