Remixing an iconic song isn’t a new thing for the music industry and often when a song is remixed, it does not do justice to the original composition. Original singers have often slammed composers who have remixed their songs on social media. Recently when Neha Kakkar released the remixed version of OG garba queen Falguni Pathak’s Maine Payal Hai Chhankai, fans got miffed with the singer for the remixed version. Falguni’s fans tagged her in stories to share how the original song was ‘ruined’ in the new version. Responding to the tagged stories on Instagram, Falguni started sharing fans’ stories who have been dissing the remixed version ever since it was released. Speaking to us, Falguni shares, “I got to know about the remixed version three-four days back. First reaction achha toh nahi tha, I was like, mujhe bas ulti aani baaki thi, aisa ho gaya tha.”
She adds that she cannot take any legal action against the music label or the singer because she does not have the rights for the original song. “The rights are not with me, jis company ne right khareede honge, unhone waat lagayi hai,” she points out.
Talking about her association with the song, Falguni says that it is very close to her heart. “Mujhse zyada meri audience ke kareeb hai. These people have been supporting me and my music for decades now, they have been hurt. Meri aankhon mein aansoo aa gaye when I saw my fans’ support,” she tells us and adds that she hasn’t been contacted by either the music label or the artiste ever since the release.
She urges music composers to retain the originality of the song if they are remixing it. “Video aur picturisation mein jo innocence thi, uska pura satyanash kiya hai iss gaane mein. Remixes are happening, but do it in a decent way. If you want to reach out to the younger generation, change the rhythm of the song, but don’t make it cheap. Gaane ki jo originality hai, feelings hai, essence hai, innocence hai, keep that, but don’t change the originality of the song. I don’t think I need to do anything; my fans are taking action against the song. I am just sharing stories. Why should I keep quiet when they are supporting me, main kaise chup baithun,” she says.
