MCAI at All About Music 2018

MCAI - 20 Sep 2018

MCAI is proud to associate yet again with All About Music, which conducted the second edition of its trademark event. The 2-day affair was held in Mumbai on 23rd and 24th of August 2018 at Taj Lands End, and provided yet again, a comprehensive outlook at the music industry both globally and in India for content creators, aggregators, producers and platforms concerning music. The event was graced by various musical pioneers, both International and Indian, along with a range of panel discussions and workshops by experts, that served as a catalyst, both for sharing of knowledge as well as excellent networking opportunities.

The diverse bench of speakers included legends like music producer Bob Ezrin, popular singer Papon, Parikrama-founder Subir Malik, award-winning lyricist Javed Akhtar and many more. These trailblazers had a series of interactive and innovative sessions, talking about the finer nuances of the gigantic music industry along with providing sound advice on domains like artiste management, the ‘big break’ and the kind of music consumption happening in the country. Topics like copyrights and ticketing were spoken about as these are some areas that might seem tedious for newcomers and amateurs.

In terms of its scope, the event was not solely restricted to performing or musical art but also included enriching sessions with multiple stalwarts of the entertainment industry such as filmmakers/producers Subhash Ghai, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Anurag Basu, Ajay Nair of OML and Shreyas Srinivasan of Insider.

Masterclasses and Connect Corners were put up across the conference in order to ensure maximum networking amongst the participants. People were free to approach the panels of promoters, distributors, labels and consultants for a quick conversation in these corners. This proved to be an opportunity to get acquainted with the leading Indian music societies and associations as well. On the other hand, Masterclasses dealt with lessons in fields like, film scoring, vocals, sound designing and much more.

The conference was also made extremely accessible to those of us who could not make it all the way to Mumbai by hosting previews in 9 major Indian cities.

With the plethora of experiences the event had to offer, All About Music also came up with an extremely efficient app that allowed the attendees to create a schedule, set up meetings with different delegates and get live updates on the go.

On behalf of MCAI, Viveick Rajagopalan, Chairperson (Outreach Committee) spoke about MCAI and the way ahead, and Sherley Singh conducted a workshop on cue sheets both of which were very well received.

An industry veteran Atul Churamani himself provided valuable insights on the Publishing industry while Sanjay Tandon, Rakesh Nigam and Rajat Kakar provided information on the functioning of ISRA, IPRS AND PPL respectively.

Needless to say, All About Music 2.0 continues to be the go-to platform for musicians across the country with this edition further expanding the legacy to be carried forward. If you’re an aspiring musician or someone who plans to make it big in this ever-expanding, dynamic industry, we suggest you keep a watch out for the next one!
